Spring Break with the Sisters of Life

This past March, 75 students from colleges and universities across the country converged on Villa Maria Guadalupe, our retreat center in Stamford, CT, where we hosted a 10-day alternative spring break experience.  Throughout the week, the students were immersed in prayer and the love of God and of the Sisters while also engaging in a wide range of experiences, from a 2 day silent retreat to start the week to volunteer days at our motherhouse to a “Saints in NYC” tour to attending presentations by well-known Catholic speakers Peter Kreeft and Vicki Thorn as well as attending our Co-Worker of Life training.  By the end of the week friendships had deepened and many new friendships had been forged as the Lord generously and abundantly poured out his grace on these students!  

In the weeks that followed this 10-day experience, we hosted volunteer days at our motherhouse for several other spring breaks trips who were in NYC for their spring breaks.  What a joy it has been to meet these students who are deeply in love with the Lord and who are ever ready to generously give of themselves in service to the other!

Volunteer Projects at Our New Motherhouse

Throughout the Spring months, we will be having volunteer days periodically at our new motherhouse in Montebello, NY.  If you would like more information about these volunteer days, please contact Sr. Mariae Agnus Dei at volunteers@sistersoflife.org.  

Our New Motherhouse

Since its inception, the Sisters of Life have seen evidence of the miracle of God’s grace in the foundation and growth of this new religious family.  Entrusted with a charism of life (a gift of God’s Spirit) for the Church and the world; blessed with a steady and growing stream of vital, young, talented and good women entering the community (we now number 76 members); charged with numerous missions in New York, Toronto and Connecticut, and an outreach of evangelization throughout our nation and internationally – all at the service of proclaiming the sacredness of human life and God’s plan for human love – the Sisters of Life now need a place which can serve as the spiritual epicenter for our growing religious community.  In the traditions of the Church, a central house which draws all the members of a women’s religious community together as family is called a motherhouse. 

 Following the Spirit’s promptings to ‘house the graces’, we will open the doors of our first motherhouse this year.  The motherhouse project will secure the deep foundations laid in the past 20 years and simultaneously respond to the blessings of growth in members and missions.  Immediately, this large convent will fulfill a long-standing need for the Mother Superior and her assistants (the Generalate) to live side-by-side with our Novitiate — the youngest members of the community.  It is for the youngest that a mother has special regard and responsibility.  The formation and integration of our newest members in a thorough-going spiritual way of life is a paramount duty, and a way of reverencing God’s great grace and gift of a call to religious consecration.

National Courage Conference

Join our Sisters at the National Courage Conference this summer.

“Courage, an apostolate of the Catholic Church, ministers to persons with same-sex attraction and their loved ones. We have been endorsed by the Pontifical Council for the Family and our beloved John Paul II said of this ministry, ”COURAGE is doing the work of God!”  We also have an outreach called  EnCourage which ministers to relatives, spouses, and friends of persons with same-sex attraction.”
